The Association of Lake Regions will be established during the first Baikal Ecological Water Forum in Irkutsk on September 14-15, the press service of the government of the Irkutsk region reports.
"It is planned to unite the regions of the post-Soviet space, where such lakes as Balkhash (Kazakhstan), Issyk-Kul (Kyrgyzstan), Sevan (Armenia) are located under the auspices of the Association." The preliminary agreement was also given to the organizations of Switzerland, Finland, "the report says.
The main task of the association will be cooperation in studying and solving the problems of large lakes in the Eurasian space.
As an example, Lake Leman in Switzerland in the mid-1980s was heavily polluted, where fish were killed.
It is planned that the representatives of Switzerland will share their experience in clearing the lake and returning it to the status of a large reservoir with clean fresh water.
"There is a serious problem in Lake Naroch in Belarus: it is infected with parasites of cercariae, and the solution of the problem will also be sought at a meeting of the Association of Lake Regions in Irkutsk," the report said.
The main theme during the first Baikal ecological water forum will be the selection of technology for wastewater treatment for the coast of Lake Baikal.
